Gauvain stays with GFC for now at least
THERE will be no sitting deep and hitting on the break for GFC at Greenwich Borough in the heart of London this lunchtime.
After two wins on the bounce Tony Vance plans to be more adventurous as he named a strong squad that included Charlton Gauvain, back from his week of training at Bristol City.
‘He did well. He didn’t look out of place and trained well,’ said Vance, who was with the 17-year-old at Bristol.
Vance expects the Championship club to sit down to discuss Gauvain’s situation, but for now he remains firmly with the Green Lions, who have Simon Geall back for the trip after he missed the last game.
One man who is out is midfielder Kez Mahon, who was superb in the win over Ramsgate but picked up another injury.
‘He did a hip flexor and also has a sore calf. We’ve pulled him out for a couple of weeks to get him sorted. It’s a loss because he’s done well recently, to be honest.’
Seb Skillen is also out with an ankle issue.
Last campaign Grenwich did the double over the Lions, winning 2-1 at Footes Lane in early August and then walloping the Green Lions in London 4-0 coming up to Christmas.
Greenwich have suffered at home this season, losing both games in the league.
But they bounced back last time out, winning 2-1 away to Herne Bay. A brace from Teshaun-Tyreece Walters, nicknamed ‘TT’, would seal Greenwich Borough’s first win of the season.
Borough handed two debuts to 18-year-old goalkeeper Tom McGill (on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion FC) and 18-year-old Liam Garlinge.
‘They’ve plummeted after losing all their money,’ said the GFC boss.
‘They were very big spenders a few years back. I think this is a win-able game for us, but I guess they probably see it the same for them. It’s important for us to continue our positivity.
‘The aim in the past there was to sit back and hit on the break. But we are going there looking to be on the front foot.’
The game kicks off at 1pm.
