Raiders do it for Charlie

RAIDERS first win of the season – a gutsy 26-21 success at old rivals Barnes – was soured by a horrific injury to prop Charlie Currie who had a dislocated fracture to his left ankle.

The injury was so severe that both teams decamped to another pitch, while the Barnes medical staff and the Raiders physio Francesca McLuskey attended to Currie.

With the ambulance unable to arrive for at least two hours the medical teams were able to reset the dislocation and transport Currie to hospital by car.

Raiders looked in danger of a fifth straight loss when they trailed 14-0, but they recovered brilliantly to run in four tries and secure a four-try bonus point.

The victory sees Jordan Reynolds' side cement 14th spot in the table ahead of Birmingham & Solihull and London Irish Wild Geese.
