The day ‘Big Jeff’ came and shooed away Lions

WHETHER you were a neutral or Phoenix Sports fan, this 5-3 away win was a great game.

But for Green Lions fans any satisfaction of witnessing some bright, enterprising football and a classic goal, was overshadowed by poor defending and ultimate capitulation.

No wonder Tony Vance fumed and Colin Fallaize, his assistant, looked devastated sitting alone in the dugout long after the final whistle.

Already without the injured Dave Rihoy, the home side’s forward options were further hit in the build-up with the loss of Kyle Smith due to illness. If there was any doubt as to whether Carlos Canha would finally get a start, that absence just about confirmed it, with Paris Pereira dropping to the bench.

Just as big a concern was how the home defence would cope against ‘Big Jeff’ – Duah-Kessie, the prolific Phoenix Sports No. 9.

Duah-Kessie was certainly big, bordering on massive in fact.

Initially, he gave the impression of another lumbering hulk, but long before he had completed a poacher’s hat-trick, you knew there was a lot more than muscle.

As well as his three, Daniel Young and Lewis Clarke scored for the visitors while Will Fazakerley and Matt Loaring (two) netted for the Green Lions.
