Howitt strikes late to complete comeback
CHAMPIONS Rovers opened up a three-point lead at the top of the FNB Priaulx League on Saturday following a remarkable 4-3 win at Port Soif.
Visitors Manzur stormed into a 3-0 lead within the opening half-an-hour thanks to goals from Craig Young, Marlon Jardim and John Hunt on a very wet and windy afternoon.
However, Louis Falla scored late in the first half to give Rovers a lifeline and inside the first five minutes of the second half they were level after Tyler McKane netted a beauty and Dale Webb's cross found the net having hung up in the wind.
With virtually the last kick of the game, Blair Howitt fired home a low drive to win the game for the hosts.
Elsewhere, North beat Rangers 3-2 at the KGV with Sam Murray grabbing a brace and River Marsh scoring the other while Marcus Queripel and Wayne Bishop netted for the hosts.
On Friday night Glenn Le Tissier scored a hat-trick in Vale Rec's 4-0 win over Sylvans. Tomos Ap Sion also got on the score-sheet.
St Martin's match with Alderney was postponed as the weather prevented the Ridunians from travelling to Blanche Pierre Lane.
