After two opening losses, they made it third time lucky at home to Rushmoor Two at Les Beaucamps High yesterday morning, winning comfortably 47-31.

On this occasion it hardly mattered that the home side passed up a stack of potential goals, but they will have to be more clinical against better opponents as the season progresses if they are to win the promotion captain Nena Copperwaite is still targeting.

‘The objective is that we obviously want to get out of this league and we’ve had two of the three tough games first rather than be able to build towards them.

‘But we know what we are up against now and when we do come up against the likes of Pumas and Weston Park Blades we need to play better,’ said the long-standing skipper.

‘It was a needed win. We went out saying we needed to be calm but positive, be positive in our attacking moves, positive in defence and play as a unit, and we did that from start to finish.

‘We were also pleased to hold onto the lead, because quite often we get a lead and then surprise ourselves that we are in the lead.’

‘It was a better second half to the first half.’
