Cruel loss – and next up it’s ‘mighty Cray’

STEVE SHARMAN has been reflecting on the occasional cruel nature of the game after GFC’s gut-wrenching late loss at fellow Bostik SE strugglers Faversham Town.

After seeing sub Harvey net an 89th minute winner, Sharman, filling in for Tony Vance, who underwent a hip replacement last week, said: ‘That’s just football – it’s just sport and football and it happens. Here, for all the effort you put in, you sometimes do not get the rewards.

‘They call it the beautiful game, but I think sometimes it can be incredibly cruel and it’s something that I do not think we deserved today.’

The Green Lions travelled with a fairly inexperienced side but Sharman thought that his team controlled vast parts of the game ‘really, really well’.

‘I think our players were incredibly brave on the ball and, as I said, dominated vast parts of the game, so it is frustrating.’

He admitted, though, there is little point moaning about it and having put together three good performances against Hastings, Haywards Heath and Faversham, they deserved more than three points out of nine.

‘You do not moan about it, you do not complain, if anything you just continue to do the same things and we’ll be fine.’

The Green Lions now have a break.

The scheduled home game against Herne Bay is off due to the UK side having a cup game. GFC return to action at home to table-toppers Cray Wanderers on Saturday week. Cray have dropped just two points all season.
