Finish off bottom and GFC survive

THE Green Lions have only to finish above one other side to preserve their Bostik South East status.

Guernsey FC chairman Mark Le Tissier has confirmed as much after efforts to keep Dartford-based Thamesmead Town Football Club alive failed.

And further good news for the Green Lions is that with all ‘The Mead’s’ results set to be expunged, relegation rivals Faversham Town’s win over the doomed club will be scrubbed off.

Official Bostik SE tables continue to show all Thamesmead’s results but they are a ‘goner’, their last game being the 3-0 win they had over the Green Lions. Efforts to rescue them have failed.

Tony Vance, who is two weeks into a six-week lay-off period as he recovers from a hip replacement, said he is sorry to see a club disappear, but he continues to be critical of how Bostik-level clubs mismanage themselves financially.

‘They pay ridiculous amounts of money to players.

‘I’m amazed it hasn’t happened to other clubs.’

As for the amended relegation picture, Vance said: ‘Thamesmead’s loss is our gain because it will help keep us in the division.'
