An even game seemed to be heading for a goalless stalemate until Danny Hale fired in a 65th minute free-kick that found the net off the post.

Steve Renouf then added a late second to confirm the result.

At St Peter’s, Vale Rec continued their immediate upturn following Jody Bisson’s resignation, winning 4-2.

The visitors were two up early on, first Martin Savident making the most of Lorcan Smith’s long kick downfield with a fine finish.

A minute later Glenn Le Tissier doubled the visitors’ advantage with a chip over the keeper, but Sylvans were soon back in the game via Joe Collenette’s twice-taken penalty.

Savident hit the bar, but the two-goal margin was restored by Rory Moriarty on 50 minutes and it was the same player’s long range strike that made the game safe at 4-1 with 20 minutes left.

Ciaran Gallagher netted a consolation second for Sylvans late on.

At the KGV, Charlton Gauvain hit a late winner for rangers as they beat Manzur 3-2.
