The Guernsey striker has arrived in the UAE with his Team Wellington teammates for the tournament that gets under way with their match against local champions Al Ain next Wednesday, with the winner going on to face Africa club champions Esperance de Tunis in the quarter-finals.

Just hours before his departure from New Zealand, Allen admitted he is still in dreamland.

‘If you asked me when I left Guernsey a year ago, on 3 December, that exactly one year later I’d be getting on a business class flight to the UAE to play in the Club World Cup, I’d have probably laughed at you,’ he said.

While Allen played an important role in Team Wellington’s Oceania Champions League success that booked their spot in the Club World Cup, squad additions in the recent off-season have seen him starting from the bench so far in their new domestic campaign.

However, he is raring to go if he is afforded the opportunity to shine against Al Ain.

‘I haven’t been getting as much pitch time so far this season as I’d like, but understandably the squad is more competitive this year,’ Allen said.
