Vale Rec back to full numbers and climb to fourth in table

FOUR days after they scratched a first-team fixture for the first time in their 66 years in the top flight, Vale Rec were last night back on their home park and with 11 men and subs.

And with a third win in four FNB Priaulx League matches, there’s clearly no need to panic down at the Corbet Field.

For Vale, the game also offered the opportunity to climb two spots in the table and nobody could say they did not deserve the 2-0 success.

Manzur arrived with only one of their GFC men - defender Frank Tobin - and, for a half, minus hot striker Marlon Jardim.

Overall, Mark Romeril’s men were as poor as the visibility.

At the end of a very average first period, fit-again striker Dave Cusack shot the home side ahead after his initial attempt had been superbly blocked on the line and Jack Smith went close to adding another midway through the second period.

With 90 minutes up, sub Glenn Le Tissier made the game safe.

Unsurprisingly, Tobin was among the game’s more impressive performers alongside Vale’s man-of-the-match Naro Zimmerman and midfield team-mate Rory Moriarty, but the GFC man could not dictate from the back-line and also picked up a yellow card.
