No Christmas joy from an out of sorts Lions

JUST when we thought we were getting good, we got bad.

Three Bridges’ impressive 3-0 win in front of a good sized Christmas Footes Lane crowd (743) went down like the proverbial lead balloon among a bad tempered and, in some quarters, naive support.

But the Green Lions only had themselves to blame with a performance that Tony Vance made no attempt to cover up.

GFC played for 10 minutes, failed to score in that promising opening, then steadily got worse once they fell behind.

Martin Dynan’s visitors have surged up the Bostik South East League table since changing half their side and on this evidence it was head-scratching to think they surrendered five to GFC in August.

Perhaps only Hythe Town have impressed more here this campaign.

Vance was certainly impressed.

‘Their first goal was poor on our part, because we got completely caught and perhaps got caught up in our own hype. After that they completely bossed us, controlled us, controlled the officials and the situation,’ said Vance.

‘We were technically and physically poor. We were completely controlled by them.

‘They were good and you can see why they have jumped up the league. Credit to them. We were well beaten today.’

In league table terms the Green Lions stay in 13th spot.
