The nominations for the Guernsey Sporting Achievement Awards 2018 have been revealed, with half-a-dozen of the island’s top sportsmen and women making the list for outstanding performer of the year.

The list comprises two world champion bowlers in Lucy Beere and Alison Merrien, English champion boxer Bradley Watson, GB athlete Alastair Chalmers, GB sailor Clem Thompson and Fifa Club World Cup footballer Ross Allen.

The amazing depth and quality in local sport is shown not only in the contenders for the main accolade, but also in the nominations for the other prizes, with 12 awards due to be presented at Beau Sejour on Thursday 10 January when the winners will be announced.

Sarnians who are performing at high levels on the international stage are prevalent in several categories.

Importantly, though, the awards evening will also recognise the tireless work of volunteers behind the scenes whose dedication to their sport has helped others to shine.
