DOUBLE the amount of road mileage and 24 new stages, mostly in the north of the island, lies in store for the record number of teams confirmed for the second Resolution IT Guernsey Rally next month.

Thirty-two cars have signed up for the two-day event on 22-23 February, which delights organiser Karl Marshall.

After the roaring success of last February’s inaugural event, which went a long way towards Marshall winning the Sports Commission’s Event of the Year award last week, the focus has switched from the higher parishes to the L’Ancresse/L’Islet area, as well as the reservoir.

Marshall, president of the Guernsey Kart and Motor Club, promises high speeds and excitement with improved viewing areas for the hundreds expected to watch.

Total entries are seven up on last year, with 14 Jersey crews, including last year’s winner Ross Le Noa, and the remainder local.

‘Guernsey’s taken the rally to its heart and we’re matching Jersey,’ said Marshall.

‘Quite a few drivers have bought cars.

‘Friday’s night stages are at the lower end of the island, Saturday’s at the other end. None of the stages have been raced before.’

Marshall said Motorsport UK saw first hand the new stages when they were here for the maiden event.

‘They were passed back then. We’ve tried to find lanes where you don’t go past too many houses.’

The new stages include Les Amarreurs headland and around the Mont Cuet dump, both of which will be under darkness.

Among the viewing areas will be on the common next to the Millennium Stone.
