British Champs next up for Cam

THE Chalmers brothers added to their increasingly impressive CVs with a 400m one-two at the Scottish Athletics National Indoor Championships.

Cam, 21, and Alastair, 18, headed a large Guernsey contingent at Glasgow Arena – many of them newcomers to an indoor meet of this scale – and tuned up for several upcoming ambitions with a show of sibling dominance.

They were never headed and while island record holder Cam ran a solid 47.20sec. in his semi-final before floating to gold in just under 48sec., hurdles ace Alastair gave chase in the final and lowered his personal best to 48.19 for a close silver.

Cam now shifts his focus to next month’s British Championships in Birmingham, while his younger brother has several important fixtures of his own to follow.

Adding to Guernsey’s representation, fellow finalist Peter Curtis’ semi time of 50.05 bodes well for the U20 athlete’s progression into the island’s elite over the distance.

Watching this success from the stands was proud Chalmers father Chris, an understated V55 talent, who had earlier clocked a 61.77 heat – making good headway towards his target of sub-60 at 60.
