FNB Priaulx League title contenders Alderney and Rovers fought out a fiery 1-1 draw at Mount Hale, a result which further damages both the clubs’ title hopes as they attempt to chase down leaders Saints.

Jermaine Parry fired Alderney ahead, but the lead was short-lived as Jason Atkins put through his own goal as the result of a superb Sam Hall corner.

Ross Benfield, the Alderney captain, was dismissed late on by referee Geoff Ogier for abusing a Rovers official, yet the home side would have won it had Steve Concanen not missed a great headed chance.

The dropping of two more points hurts the defending champions more than the Ridunians who, if they win their two games hand, would climb to within two points of the leaders.

‘It was a close game, hard-fought and a draw was probably a fair result,’ said Rovers coach Jez Robin.
