The defending champions overcame a modest start to come out on top by 15 goals (67-52) in Tuesday’s high-action encounter at Grammar School.

Rezzers kept a familiar roster but, with Lydia McClean and Lorna Hall struck down by illness at the 11th hour, Titans assigned court time to several reserves – B-team players Georgie Fletcher and Emma Hicks, plus Heidi Rosamund from the bench.

The victorious greens were again guilty of a slower start after just about leading 16-14 at the quarter, but soon burst into their impressive peak scoring form as Titans hit the beginning of a lull and they entered half-time 38-27.

The leaders would build to 55-37 by the end of the third period and then ease towards the win, while their resilient opponents made good use of their chances and ran them close again in the final quarter.

Rezzers WA Anna Burns earned player-of-the-match honours for her feeding efforts into the circle, while Tiff Gervaise-Brazier reflected upon their victory.

‘I’m pleased with the win, again we had a slow start for us but in the second and third quarter we picked it up,’ she said.

‘Credit to the shooting from the Titans as they didn’t really miss – it was a really good game.’

With next week off due to half-term, Rezzers are under pressure to make their few remaining matches count – especially against main title rivals Blaze.

‘We currently both have some injuries at the moment so hopefully we will be back up to full strength heading towards the end of the season,’ the captain added.

Titans captain Donna Brehaut, who earned a player-of-the-match nomination for her shooting efforts, was pleased with the action across the court.

‘Rezzers were always in charge of the game – however, we started strongly, which is something we have needed to work on this season, so that was pleasing,’ she said.

‘I think they [the additions] did a great job – Georgie has consistently had game time for the A side this season and she is definitely someone to look out for in the future.

‘Occasionally we were guilty of rushing our passes and although we took many positives including some good attacking circle rotation, all-in-all Rezzers deserved the victory.’
