Having been the volunteer co-ordinator for the Games when they were last in Guernsey in 2003, she has since travelled the world working at various sporting events, including the 2004 Athens Olympics, the 2012 London Olympics and Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Dame Mary Perkins, chair of the Guernsey Organising Committee, believes that in their new Games director they have someone fully versed in what is required stage a successful event, in the same was as Roy Martel did for the 2003 event.

‘Julia brings a huge breadth of knowledge and experience to the Organising Committee, and we are delighted to welcome her back to Guernsey. We have some exciting plans for the 2021 Games and look forward to sharing these with everyone over the coming months.’

‘Planning is going well and the rest of the Organising Committee have already put in some good work,’ said Bowditch.

‘Obviously, the main focus has to be on the Gibraltar Games in July this year, but straight after these are finished, the countdown to Guernsey 2021 will begin.’

If you are interested in being involved with the Games, there is a registration of interest form available at www.guernsey2021.gg/volunteer/. A core volunteer team is currently being recruited, including a volunteer manager, training manager and volunteer co-ordinators.
