Vance frustrated by a lack of goals

THE Green Lions’ third straight defeat leaves them ever dangerously looking near the division’s trap door, but Tony Vance insists he is not fretting.

‘I’m not worried, just frustrated,’ the Guernsey FC boss said after seeing his side surrender a lead and lengthy dominance to go down 2-1 to Sevenoaks Town.

Guernsey FC now find themselves just five points above Greenwich Borough who sit in the second and final relegation spot, but any one of seven teams ranging as high as Three Bridges in 13th spot remain in danger.

And to add to GFC fans’ worries ahead of a trip to seventh-placed Hythe Town this weekend, star defender Frank Tobin is suspended for three games following his straight red and there are question marks as to the availability of his central defensive partner and captain, Jamie Dodd, due to illness.

Vance says the lack of goals is damaging, while he is happy with the general play.

‘We started strongly but it comes down to the end product and particularly at home.

‘It’s costing us and has been a frustration for us all season.

‘You need to score at least two goals at home and you can’t just rely on 1-0s.’

The Green Lions had sufficient chances to put the game to bed and Vance claimed his side should have had a penalty for a push on Will Fazakerley.

But Sevenoaks dominated the second period as the clash became, in Vance’s words, ‘a basketball game’.

A few weeks ago GFC were looking to push on to the upper mid-table, but now sit 16th.

‘It shows that in this league that with three poor results you can get dragged down. I’m not nervous but frustrated.’
