‘Big boys’ add weight to Fury show
THE ‘big boys’ are out in force at Beau Sejour on Saturday night.
Guernsey has three heavyweights on the bill for Guernsey Amalgamated Boxing Club’s grand ‘February Fury’ show.
Beau Sejour is due to host some of the top boxers from across the Home Counties, and the island’s own top representatives will have excellent home backing in a 21-bout bill spanning the full range of weight classes.
Heavyweights Oblie Botchway, Dan Maree and Tomasz Kot will add some extra brawn to the latter end of the programme and each has a positive combat record to upkeep.
All three are adopted Guernseymen, but Botchway is the newest addition to the scene, coming over from London in 2017 to train as a tax advisor after completing his studies at Imperial College.
He will face Wycombe man Lewis Oakford in the 14th bout of the night and Botchway currently holds a record of three wins from four.
‘Oblie has settled into the team well ... he is a smart boxer who judges the range well and has great reflexes and counter-punching abilities,’ said GABC head coach Ben Duff.
The relatively new recruit is once again in high spirits ahead of a good home bout.
‘I’m feeling pretty good, pretty confident – it is always encouraging to fight in Guernsey and the crowd gets me going,’ said Botchway.
‘Really, there’s not much out there about the guys who we’re up against, so I just have to focus on what I do best.’
