Return ‘Muratti’ clash in the ring
CHRIS SUMNER can exact some revenge on Jersey for the Muratti semi-final defeat when he takes on Tom Frame in the Western Counties final this weekend.
The Ridunian Sumner won unanimously in Gloucester last weekend, putting in a good performance, said his coach Ben Duff.
The Sumner-Frame showdown is supposed to be in Cheltenham this Friday, where it has to take place, say ABA officials.
Duff had hoped the bout might take place in Jersey as they have a show this Saturday.
‘If all the judges are neutral we are happy for it to go ahead in Jersey,’ said Duff, who then learned that the officer in charge of the Western Counties finals is adamant it has to be contested in Cheltenham this Friday, due to a higher level of refs and judges required to supervise elite championships.
The news from Gloucester was not so good for Casey de la Mare. Although performing well, he lost his semi-final on a unanimous decision.
Guernsey have Tom Teers and Rob Brehaut boxing against Jersey opponents this weekend, while Luke Robert and Oblie Botchway guest for Jersey against Welsh opponents.
