Red-hot Jersey prove too strong

JERSEY provided a potent reminder of their dominance at Senior A level after winning yesterday’s inter-insular showpiece 63-27.

Despite the passionate home support awaiting the Greens at Beau Sejour and a confidence-boosting victory from the ‘B’ girls the day before, Guernsey could not prevent the Caesareans from grasping their 14th consecutive victory at the top end.

Several previously unavailable stars made their presence known within Guernsey’s strong Panthers-based squad, but Jersey were simply that much sharper across the court.

The Reds’ athletic attackers proved deadly in the circle, rarely missing a shot, and the strength of the remaining members stopped the Greens making any real headway.

Guernsey had the joy of drawing first blood shortly after the opening whistle, but they faced a storm of goals in response and were down by six within minutes.

The game was already taking a familiar shape as the Sarnians ended the quarter 6-18 down.

Guernsey made a few changes and minimised their losses near the end of the second section, but still found themselves trailing 12-31 at half-time.

The lead grew to 48-19 heading into the final quarter and the hosts were resigned to defeat as Jersey centre Jacy Brown took player-of-the-match honours.

Guernsey did enjoy three victories from seven throughout the weekend, taking the U14 and Senior B silverware on Saturday and beating the Jersey veterans just prior to the concluding A clash.
