He will debut as part of a five-strong men’s squad named shortly after this year’s Paul Van Katwyk Easter Festival – although much was already decided among the top contenders.

Sam Culverwell, James Roe and Mike Serafin attained pre-selection last autumn and Jack English’s early-season form had quietly nearly guaranteed him the No. 4 spot.

It is only after an excellent Easter that Cox has officially joined English and the pre-picks in a roster of various talents.

‘It’s an exciting debut. I am really pleased I’ve managed to get the last spot,’ said Cox.

‘It was before early winter that the squads were pre-selected and, for me, it has been a long winter’s training. I am really glad it has come through in the end – all the hard work has paid off.’

Their women’s counterparts, headed by experienced veteran Karina Bowie, are also looking to advance themselves in the build-up.

Several key changes have occurred since pre-selection, but two debutantes feature in the final squad, these being young Hannah Brehaut and surprise addition Jamie-Lee Wright.

Men’s team: James Roe, Sam Culverwell, Mike Serafin, Jack English and Marc Cox [Andy Colver and Matt Osborn reserves].

Women’s team: Karina Bowie, Danielle Hanley, Hannah Brehaut, Maddie Wilson and Jamie-Lee Wright.

Team managers: Gary Wallbridge and Alex Wilson.
