Club president Colin Kimber confirmed the appointment yesterday and said he was ‘thrilled to bits’ with the news.

‘I’m looking forward to Jose joining us. He ticks all the boxes.

‘He was a very successful youth coach with us and the likes of Sam Hale, Danny Hale, River Marsh, Tom Martin all played under him at U14s level. More recently he has been with Ormer Ladies and all I know is that he is a really nice bloke with a good knowledge of football.’

Kimber added that Charlie Pinsard, who has been in temporary charge of the first team since the resignation of Will Woodford, is likely to stay on as Alvarez’s assistant.

‘There might well be a third person involved. But Charlie has offered to help out and I believe Jose will take him up on that offer.’

Kimber said that Alvarez’s name had cropped up in conversation and it went from there.

‘I made the phone call and he said he would be really interested.’

Only last weekend Alvarez oversaw Ormer Ladies to an exciting 4-4 draw in the CI League to complete an unbeaten, title-winning season in the new competition.
