Wanderers take advantage of Cobo's rickety batting
IN JUST about the time it took to complete the 2019 Muratti Vase showdown, Wanderers Irregulars sprung a big surprise at KGV on Sunday to thrash Cobo in the Rickety Bridge Weekend Championship Final.
Lucas Barker’s men required just 10.3 overs to ease to a 10-wicket win on a flat track which veteran steamer Pierre Moody and, to a lesser extent, Sam Hale and Barker, utilised skilfully.
But as Cobo will have recognised, it was a shocking batting display from a team that contains six Island players in the top seven.
To total a meagre 44 and utilise just 24 of the allotted 40 overs was a poor effort.
Moody finished with figures of 4 for 17 and his skipper heaped praise on the long-serving player who dates back to the old days of Pessimists.
‘I think we bowled really, really well and didn’t give them much to score off. Pierre bowled full and straight and making them play every ball, while I dotted them up well up front.
‘There were not too many loose shots, but we kept challenging the stumps and we got them,’ he added.
‘It is the first time in a few years that someone other than Cobo or Griffins has won a trophy, so I’m chuffed with that.’
