Bonus points help Royals make it two wins from two

THE value of bonus points in the Island Team Scratch League came to the fore at La Grande Mare on Monday evening.

The Douit Dodgers and the Rocque Balan Royals shared the spoils as far as rubber wins went, but the visitors edged to their second victory of the campaign thanks to the two bonuses Daniel Griggs and Nigel Vaudin picked up in their narrow foursomes defeat, which nudged the overall score to 13-11 to the defending champions.

It was only right that Griggs and Vaudin got some reward for playing their part in the best game of the night, despite eventually succumbing to Dave Jeffery and Wasif Anees down the last.

That was one of two wins for the hosts on the night, the other coming from CJ Elmy who saw off Mick Marley in the first singles rubber.

Island junior champion Ollie Chedhomme also gave an excellent account of himself on his Douit Dodgers debut and often held the upper hand against Roland Mills.

However, Mills kept plugging away and eventually took the lead with four holes remaining before finishing the match in style by chipping in for victory on the 17th.

The opening foursomes match had been a one-sided affair as Royals captain Tom Le Huray joined forces with Jeremy Nicolle to pick up a winning bonus point by defeating the out-of-sorts LGM pair of Wayne Harwood and Neil Black in just 13 holes.

The next Island Team Scratch League fixtures sees L’Ancresse Martellos host LGM Douit Dodgers on Monday 3 June.
