Priaulxs to race each other as teammates

ANDY PRIAULX is set for a dream drive this summer as he races his son for the first time ever – and his draw of racing partner will only add to the excitement.

He will represent Multimatic Motorsports, the same team as son Seb, alongside none other than legendary cyclist Sir Chris Hoy for a surprise appearance at the fifth round of the British GT Championship.

Priaulx and Hoy will be racing in a Mustang GT4 for the fixture, taking place on Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps circuit on 20-21 July, in what will be a unique opportunity for the Guernseyman.

‘This is a real privilege for me,’ said Priaulx senior.

‘I can’t thank the team enough for inviting me to drive with Chris in the No. 19 car alongside Sebastian in his usual No. 15 with Scott Maxwell.

‘While we will be racing against each other, I don’t see this as rivalry but a fantastic opportunity to help Seb and the team that is fighting for the championship. I have a bit of experience behind me so hopefully I can help them with such things as data.’

Priaulx has raced against Hoy in the past, but to team up with him will be a new venture entirely.

He is beyond excited to be joining forces with the six-time Olympic champion track cyclist.

‘I am a great admirer of Chris and have followed his cycling career over many years,’ added Priaulx.

‘He has come to motorsport and showed that he can be just as competitive on four wheels as two. To say I am excited about this project is an understatement.’

Priaulx is a great fan of Spa and last raced the 7km Belgian circuit on 5 May, driving his Ford GT in the penultimate round of the FIA World Endurance Championship Super Season.

Although Hoy has not raced British GT since 2014, he will whet his appetite a month prior with an outing alongside another World Endurance Championship driver, Billy Johnson.
