Guernsey’s hard work pays off as they make history
PHILIPPA STAHELIN is still on cloud nine after carrying her bat to guide Guernsey to victory in the first official T20 international-status Inter-Insular.
The opener made an unbeaten 56 from 52 deliveries, including seven boundaries, as the Sarnians successfully chased 114 with 2.1 overs to spare to win the InfrasoftTech Women’s T20I Inter-Insular Cup by seven wickets at the College Field on Friday.
‘I am obviously delighted to have played a part in winning the Inter-Insular for the third time in succession,’ Stahelin said.
‘It’s my maiden Guernsey 50 so a special moment for me. To be fair, I was pretty tired at the end so I was very pleased to see Bex [Becky Hubbard] coming in at the end as she’s such a great hitter.
‘We’ve worked really hard for this, with our winter net sessions and I’ve been concentrating a lot on rotating the strike and keeping the score ticking over.
‘The sessions with Paul [Buckle] and Lucas [Barker] our coaches really paid off and it was great to see the plan worked.
‘I am seriously chuffed for all the team and very proud to have played my part.’
