Ollie relentless in his pursuit of second title
CHAMPION Ollie Chedhomme produced a performance good enough to beat anyone in the island as he retained his Guernsey junior title in style on Saturday.
With force 5-6 winds whipping around the west coast, the 14-year-old played simply outstanding golf to overcome Rory McKenna 7 & 6 in the 36-hole showpiece at La Grande Mare.
The runner-up played his full part in a high-class final and on another day he would have done enough to win.
But Chedhomme was relentless from the moment he opened up with a birdie, remarkably completing a brilliant morning round one-under par and then hardly giving his opponent a sniff of a comeback in the afternoon.
‘I have practised a lot recently, so the hard work has paid off today,’ said Chedhomme, with a degree of understatement.
‘With the wind out there, it was definitely not easy, but the course is in immaculate condition and the greens were running really quickly so it was a very good day.’
