Silverstone race judges spoil young Seb’s fun
SEBASTIAN PRIAULX stood on the Silverstone podium and waved a lovely silver cup about.
But having worked so hard to get the No. 15 Ford Mustang up to third in the GT4 category at the latest British GT Championship round at Silverstone, then came the bad news.
Post race, Priaulx and Maxwell had 30 seconds added to their race time due to a pitstop infringement, which dropped them to fifth.
‘While it’s frustrating to lose the podium finish, fifth is still enough to move us up to second in the GT4 points standings,’ said the 18-year-old later.
ERC Sport had made it a Mercedes-AMG one-two in the GT4 class thanks to a stealthy, trouble-free drive from Peter Belshaw and Maxi Buhk, who finished ahead of Priaulx.
Priaulx and Maxwell had been ever-present in the top six and ultimately found themselves best of the Silver entries after three hours.
‘While it’s frustrating to receive the time penalty, which ultimately cost us a podium finish, it takes nothing away from what’s been a really positive weekend for the team all round as we got back to fighting at the front of the field where we belong.
‘Multimatic Motorsports did a fantastic job with the Ford Mustang and our pace was strong in qualifying. Scott drove two great stints in the race and I was pleased with the speed I was able to show, particularly in the final sprint to the chequered flag.
‘To end the weekend second in both the overall and Silver Cup standings is brilliant for us. We have a couple of things we need to improve for Donington Park, but we know we have strong pace there from testing and head into the meeting in confident mood.’
