Burling and Le Maitre are a class apart from the rest
THERE were no major upsets in yesterday’s ‘Father’s Day Half’ as the fastest man and fastest woman on paper strode out to very convincing victories.

But while Ryan Burling ran away from the 700-plus field with no hint of competition, Becky Le Maitre’s dominance of the women’s race was something of a mini-miracle.
Le Maitre’s ‘paper’ time dates back nearly five years and, after working hard to tame an injury that has pestered her since the 2015 Island Games, she produced a very creditable effort.
Their winning times of 70min. 25sec. and 88min. 38sec. were well outside their respective bests but made them clear winners, especially given a few notable absentees at the sharp end of the field, and showed promise for the near future.
