The Guernsey player started well against the 20th seed Anett Kontaveit and broke her opponent twice in the opening five games of the match in front of a supportive crowd on No. 1 Court.

The first set remained tight throughout, but Kontaveit managed to break Watson's serve three times to edge it 7-5 in 48min.

Having gained the momentum, the Estonian went up a gear in the second set and stormed through it 6-1 to progress to the third round.

Watson will now focus on the doubles events at SW19.
