‘Special weekend’ for the Priaulxs
HONOURS ended even between the Priaulxs as father-and-son Andy and Seb raced against each other for the first time at the weekend.
Both were in action for the Multimatic Motorsports team at Spa-Francorchamps in the latest round of the British GT Championship, Priaulx senior joining forces with Sir Chris Hoy in the guest No. 19 Ford Mustang while Priaulx junior was out to maintain his GT4 championship lead alongside Scott Maxwell.
‘It was an absolute pleasure to share a garage with my dad and race against him for the first time,’ said Seb.
‘We had an intense battle – he was just quicker in qualifying, but I posted a better lap in the race so I think we’re even.
‘I’ve always looked up to him, so this was a special weekend for me.’
In the end, Seb Priaulx and Maxwell secured a hard-fought top-six finish at the iconic circuit in Belgium to remain at the top of the standings.
Only two meetings now remain in the 2019 season, with the next race coming at Brands Hatch on 3-4 August.
‘We knew heading into the weekend that Spa-Francorchamps was a circuit that wouldn’t suit our Ford Mustang compared to others on the calendar, so to come away with a top-six finish and the championship lead is fantastic,’ Priaulx said.
Andy Priaulx and cycling legend Hoy finished 14th in their category.
‘We had a fantastic weekend and I am really pleased Seb and Scott have managed to collect some important championship points, even though it was not a circuit that was suited to us,’ said Priaulx senior.
‘The Priaulx v Priaulx battle was intense and while I managed to pip him in qualifying when he was on a wet set-up and I was on a dry set-up, his fastest lap in the race was quicker than mine.
‘I would like to thank Larry Holt and Multimatic for letting me have this opportunity. It is a weekend I will never forget.’
