Vaudin heads to La Moye as a category one golfer

ROCHELLE VAUDIN has just achieved a big ambition – even before playing her first Channel Islands Women’s Silver Championship final tomorrow.

In a stellar week during which the new island champion has accumulated an impressive 77 Stableford points in two big domestic competitions at two different venues, Vaudin has become a category one player having reached a handicap of five.

That is a real confidence boost ahead of her 36-hole CI final against home player Elaine Pushman at La Moye tomorrow.

‘My game does feel very good,’ said Vaudin.

‘I had a good round on Tuesday in the [Royal Guernsey] President’s Prize when I shot a 75 gross for 40 points.

‘I was actually two-under-par stood on the ninth tee, but a silly bogey took me back to one-under at the turn then I bogeyed the next three holes, too.’

However, the highlight was still to come after a couple of pars got Vaudin back on the right track.

‘I eagled the 15th [which is a par five off the red tees] – I stiffed an eight iron to about 10 inches.

‘I got a bit excited after that, to be honest, and bogeyed my way in from there,’ she added with a chuckle.

Vaudin followed that performance by winning the scratch prize in Thursday’s Le Friquet Ladies’ Open at La Grande Mare where her five-over-par 70 gross equated to 37 points.

‘I had just been fighting my swing a little bit, but Tuesday went well and I had a lovely round today,’ she added, speaking on Thursday afternoon.

Vaudin’s match with Pushman is one of five CI finals taking place at La Moye tomorrow.

The men’s clash sees Jeremy Nicolle face Matthew Parkman while Ollie Chedhomme takes on Reid Burns in the junior showdown.

In the senior men’s event Mick Marley will be up against Mark Hesford, while the women’s bronze division match will pit Guernsey’s Judith Tolcher against Patricia Fior.
