A GOAL after 10 seconds got the 2019 Doric Rawlinson Cup off to an incredible start last night.

Sylvans had the kick-off in the first quarter-final of the Bels-hosted pre-season tournament at the Track and a few passes later the ball was back with keeper Seb Sheppard, who was closed down by Lucas Meza. The St Martin’s striker blocked the attempted clearance and the ball ricocheted into the net.

Saints warranted their one-goal half-time lead, but Sylvans gave as good as they got in the second half and Jason Martin had to make four fine saves, although none as good as the ‘worldie’ Nick Batiste pulled off to deny Meza at the other end.

Ally Venosa finally got a second six minutes from the end for Saints, who will face the winners of tonight’s game between Manzur and North (kick off 8pm) in next Tuesday’s semi-final.
