Maya’s Spanish lessons
GUERNSEY’S high-flying ‘Seagulls’ star is on her maiden senior tour in Spain ahead of what looks to be an exciting season.
Maya Le Tissier, in an interview for the Brighton and Hove Albion website where she also reflected upon a ‘rollercoaster’ previous season, expressed her appreciation of the opportunity to learn from her more experienced teammates.
This is for a club that recently signed a multimillion-pound sponsorship deal with American Express and intends to allocate a large portion to a new women’s and girls’ training complex.
In preparation for the 2019-20 Women’s Super League campaign, the 17-year-old and her fellow players have been put through their paces with some demanding drills and supplementary sessions from Hope Powell and her staff.
‘We like big challenges and being under pressure to try and improve,’ said Le Tissier.
‘For me as a player coming through at Brighton, it’s exciting to see what this team can do and to improve on our first season in the WSL.
‘Personally, I want to show what I can do and develop even more. It’s the first time I’ve been away with a senior tour, so I want to learn off the other senior players as well because they have a lot more experience than me.
‘I just want to improve day in, day out. The main thing is to work hard and do my best.’
