Five-star Murray has Northerners on cloud nine

SAM MURRAY scored five as North cruised into the Jeremie Cup quarter-finals last night.

Included in the big striker’s personal tally was a nine-minute first-half hat-trick as the chocolate-and-blues beat Bels 9-1 at Northfield to set up a last-eight clash with St Peter from Jersey.

Remarkably, Murray’s opening goal on 17min. came against the run of play, but once he had completed his hat-trick on 26min. North were four goals to the good, Danny Hale having netted the other from the penalty spot.

Ollie Smith gave Bels a glimmer of hope with a headed goal before half-time, but Ben Bullock, Mario Cacace and Simon Marley extended the North lead in the second half before Murray scored the final two goals.

Across Grand Fort Road at the Corbet Field, Rovers edged out Vale Rec 3-2 in their first-round tie to set up a quarter-final with St Clement.

Dale Webb scored twice for Rovers with Sam Hall getting the other. Jason Simmonds and Glenn Le Tissier (penalty) netted for Rec.
