PUTTING the Aurigny ‘vote-gate’ fuss behind them Guernsey FC flew to the top of the BetVictor South East division’s scorers list with a terrific 4-1 win at Ramsgate.

The win at Southwood Stadium represented the Green Lions’ second successive win on the road and lifted them to ninth in the table, four points adrift of the new leaders Chichester City who ended Cray Valley Paper Mills’ unbeaten start.

GFC welcomed Kieran Mahon back into their starting line-up following his suspension and Ross Allen opened the scoring in the 21st minute.

The ace striker fired through a congested penalty area and his shot took a deflection into the bottom corner for his fourth goal in five games.

Typically, this season, the lead was short-lived.

Just seven minutes later Ramsgate’s Rory Brown got on the end of a cross and looped a header over goalkeeper Callum Stanton.

Then the goal of the game.

The visitors reclaimed the lead before half time courtesy of a long-range screamer from defender Frank Tobin.

Having received the ball around 30 yards out and in plenty of space, he took aim and found the top-right corner with a powerful drive that left Ramsgate ‘keeper William Godmon with no chance.

Buoyed by that GFC continued to impress after the break and extended their lead through Carlos Canha in the 53rd minute, lobbing the ball over the keeper’s head.

The Green Lions rounded off the scoring with a fourth just before the hour mark.

Canha drove forward through the middle, fed Liam Mahon down the right and his low cross found the on-rushing Will Fazakerley who slotted home. A great team goal.

In the closing stages youngster Alex Scott was denied by some good defending and Liam Mahon fired a free kick just wide.

GFC have two more away games this coming week at Haywards Heath Town tomorrow and Sittingbourne on Saturday.

Locally, St Paul's and St Peter piled more misery on Guernsey's top sides with Jeremie Cup quarter-final wins yesterday.

Guernsey FC man Robbie Legg was on target for Sylvans in a 3-1 defeat by St Paul's, while an early Sol Solomon goal sent North out at Northfield.
