‘Heath’ sign 6ft 6in. ‘Drogba’

EIGHTH plays ninth at the Hanbury Stadium tonight and for the visiting Green Lions hopes are high for what would be a very rare on-the-road treble and put them right in the heart of the early season play-off picture.

Tony Vance simply wants more of the same from his free-scoring men who dismantled Ramsgate on Saturday.

The Green Lions top the BetVictor South East table goalscorers and just five games into a 38-match programme are already virtually a quarter of the way to last season’s paltry 50-goal tally.

Tonight’s opponents looked to be heading for a second defeat of the season at Whitstable on Saturday when, playing with just 10, Callum Saunders earned ‘Heath’ a point thanks to a wonder strike two minutes from time.

GFC may well face ‘Heath’s’ newest recruit tonight, the 6ft 6in. striker Melford Simpson, nicknamed ‘Drogba’.

Melford has returned to the club for a fourth time in the past three seasons, having previously scored 22 times and made 24 assists in 53 appearances.

Having taken some time out due to family issues the big man is looking forward to getting going again and should he feature, Jamie Dodd and co. could be in for a rough time.

Meanwhile, Sam Denly has resigned as manager of Hythe Town.

His departure came just hours after the Cannons were thrashed 7-1 by Kent rivals Faversham.

Hythe have quickly named Steve Watt as their new manager and he confidently predicts a big turnaround in fortunes. ‘I am excited to join an ambitious club who I believe has great potential for the future. I think that there are great days ahead for Hythe Town and I believe we can achieve our goals.’
