Back in the squad Charlton Gauvain took his place on the bench, while the latest new ‘kid on the block’, Alex Scott, was given his first start.

Tom Strawbridge was also back in the GFC back-line after missing the trip to Ramsgate and with it he found himself up against the Sussex version of a Chelsea legend, Melford ‘Drogba’ Simpson, all 6ft 6in. of him.

It was Simpson’s strike colleague, Trevor McCreadie, who wasted the first chance of the game on 10 minutes and when four minutes later Frank Tobin let fly from distance, the home keeper parried and Will Fazakerley headed over.

Fazakerley again went close just before the half hour, his superb left-foot drive forcing keeper Glover into a fingertip save.

The big striker again went close with a header that lacked power but it was a good first half hour by the visitors, yet it was Heath who ended the half with a few chances of their own, including a super volley from Simpson that flew just wide.

It had been an entertaining first 45 with young Scott shaping well but on the hour mark Heath struck, McCreadie being hauled down as he tried to round Cal Stanton and the striker picked himself up to tuck home the penalty.

Ross Allen had an effort saved as GFC pushed for the equaliser which came on 70 minutes as Fazakerley latched onto a through ball and lobbed the keeper.

Gauvain appeared for the last 15 along with Seb Skillen but there were no further goals.
