Hampshire KOd – Dorset next up
CHARLIE PINSARD’S FNB Priaulx League representative team have earned themselves a second round home tie against Dorset after proving worthy 5-1 winners at Stockbridge.
And with the Jersey Combination also winning the Channel Islands seemingly have a strong hand to play in the national competition.
The FA Inter League Cup is spread over two seasons and as was the case in 2017 the Hampshire Premier fell at the first hurdle.
On an ideal playing surface, the Greens were ahead on 13 minutes.
Home keeper Tom Boyle received a back pass with an opponent virtually on top of him and his scuffed clearance was returned across the area by Sam Hall and easily turned in at the far post by Kyle Smith.
Sam Murray almost added an immediate second, being denied by a last-ditch tackle but the visitors doubled their lead when Craig Young worked his way into the area and after being brought down got up to stroke the resultant penalty low into the corner.
Home manager Dave Fear’s half-time talk went out of the window as Guernsey added a third goal immediately after the resumption.
Full back Zac Chatterton made ground down the right and his cross was swept home on the volley by Scott Bougourd.
If that was not game over then three minutes later it surely was as the visitors made it four. Louis Graham came in from the right, laid the ball into Smith’s path and the finish was low in to the bottom corner.
To their credit the home side kept going with a Perry Easton cross well held by Jason Martin and a Phillips shot rebounding to safety off the keeper’s legs.
The Hampshire Premier League finally reduced the deficit when from a free kick in the centre circle Sean Haines rose the highest and directed his header past Martin.
It was all too little too late, more so in that within three minutes Guernsey made it 5-1.
Substitute Simon Marley’s cross found Murray in the area and the striker was given time to turn and find the corner of the net.
Jersey romped to a 7-0 home win over the Somerset County League with goals from Sol Solomon (2), Luke Campbell, Adam Trotter, Karl Hinds, Fraser Barlow and Luke Shirley.
