Pinsard warning: ‘We start again’
A FIRST Guernsey FA Inter-League Cup win in 10 years is no guarantee that the players will keep their spots when the island hosts Dorset Premier League in the next round.
Coach Charlie Pinsard was effusive in his praise of his team that beat Hampshire Premier League 5-1 at leafy Stockbridge, but warns that he could make changes.
‘You could say that we start again and there’s room for people to state their case. I told the lads that I wanted them to think “I want a bit of that” and continue to perform.’
The obvious candidate to come back in when Dorset arrive sometime before the end of November is Alderney’s lynchpin Josh Concanen.
He was away in Romania at the weekend as a guest at former colleague Marian State’s wedding.
There is a strong chance that the game will be played at The Track and that is Pinsard’s preference.
‘The Track is identified as the home of football and that’s where I’d like it to be played,’ he said yesterday.
No sooner had the FNB Priaulx League rep. side won than GFLM were asking the public, via social media, if they had a preference as to where the game is staged.
GFLM board chairman Phil Corbet says that there had been ‘quite a lot of feedback’ and most of it points to the Track as a preference.
But, as he warned, that would be dependent on it being available and, at this stage, they have no date.
The GFLM also want to avoid any clash with a home Guernsey FC game.
‘We both need our revenue streams,’ he said.
Corbet, a former Muratti-winning coach, said he was impressed by the performance of Pinsard’s men in Hampshire.
‘Sam Hale was quality at the back and Sam Murray worked really hard to lead the line. Craig Young used all his experience and I thought Louis Graham played well too.’
Pinsard was delighted with the response he got from the group.
‘They [Hampshire] had some real talent but weren’t as organised as us.’
He singled out left-back Graham for praise but said the whole team ‘turned up and did the basics’.
