Sylvans finally depart feeling hard done by
TWO goals up in no time, Sylvans’ day-trip to Alderney seemed to be going so well.
Ninety minutes later they had lost by the odd goal in five and with the low cloud descending on the northern isle there was no chance for a quick escape home.
Fogged in, ultimately, they didn’t get back on Sarnian soil until 6.20pm the following day.
Sylvans players and coach Martyn de Garis had plenty of time to mull over how, for the second time this season, they let slip a 2-0 lead against the Ridunians.
But de Garis felt a touch hard done by this time.
‘We were rolled over by them in the second half at our place, but this time we did really well.
‘We were much more competitive and I don’t remember them having many chances at all,’ said de Garis.
But, three moments killed them.
The sin-binning of Fraser Le Tissier cost them two goals in 10 first-half minutes, keeper Nick Batiste dropped a clanger and Alderney scored the winner from a corner that even the home side agreed never should have been.
Despite those moments, de Garis was pleased with the performance of his scratch team and he expects to have four or five back for tomorrow evening’s scheduled league game against Bels at the Track.
The three points for Alderney lifted them to third, one point adrift of pacesetters St Martin’s and North.
Manzur are due to play St Martin’s at the Track tonight.
