It is a stark difference to 12 months ago when they trailed their rivals by the same margin at the end of the first quarter, largely due to Seb Priaulx and Adrian Holley’s resurgent form.

Priaulx has been a model of consistency in winning each match 2-1, and he did so again by beating Adam Shorto, despite the Island captain’s second-frame 47.

The Sledgehammers held firm, though, with John Skillett overturning Darren Hughes’ fine start to level the match at 3-3.

Little was going to get in Martyn Desperques’ way in the second half and a 64 break contributed to a haul of 250 points in winning 3-0 for the fourth time.

Alongside Desperques, Holley was getting the better of Glenn Le Prevost to seal the victory and with his 2-1 win he is already eight frames better off at this stage of the season.

RAF Reds can look back on their top flight start with huge satisfaction as they sit in third place after a battling draw against the Hot Butts.
