Hunter is Saints’ match-winner

THE champions are back up to second in the FNB Priaulx League, just a point behind leaders Alderney with still a game in hand on the Ridunians.

St Martin’s made hard work of edging past their hosts Vale Rec 1-0 last night at the Corbet Field, though, with Louis Hunter’s goal on the stroke of half-time proving decisive.

Leon Meakin’s men were the better side and, as such, deserved the three points, but the way in which they failed to take any of several decent second-half chances that would have put the game to bed frustrated their supporters.

Lucas Meza and Hunter were among the guilty as they put golden opportunities straight at Rec's stand-in goalkeeper Luke Le Tissier, whose Guernsey cricket teammate Jason Martin was forced into an important save of his own in the Saints goal late on to deny Vale a point.
