Allen threatens shock win at the leaders

THE Green Lions have passed another significant test in this highly impressive first three months of their Isthmian South East league campaign.

Holding leaders Cray Valley PM to a 1-1 draw, they had threatened a shock win until, with time fast running out, the side that haven’t lost in the league since September levelled.

Despite coming under non-stop second-half pressure, it looked as if Ross Allen’s first-half penalty might secure a brilliant away win.

But not even the most ardent GFC fans could deny that the hosts deserved to get on level terms given their domination of the second half.

GFC had led from the 36th minute.

Some classic Allen play saw him turn one way then the other in the area and draw a foul in the box. Penalty.

The Cray Valley goalkeeper went the right way and got a hand to Allen’s spot kick, but couldn’t keep it out and the ball nestled in the corner.

Allen had Guernsey’s only chance of the second half but his looping effort flew wide of the near post.

Cray Valley pressed hard and got their rewards with a little over five minutes to go when Francis Babalola's effort was deflected in. Defender Frank Tobin then blocked a low shot from substitute Kweku Ansah and Babalola dragged a poor effort wide.
