Brown's primary concern a sponsor

SYLVANS’ flagship senior side could not welcome him in with a win, but that was not the biggest concern for the new president watching on at St Peter’s, Adrian Brown.

No, that was the number of footballs being sent into an adjacent back garden and being temporarily lost to the club while preparations are being made to replace the old fence which, for decades, had divided the two properties.

The situation is not ideal but Brown, a lawyer and devoted Sheffield Wednesday supporter, says he has bigger issues than confiscated balls while looking forward to continuing the work of Nigel Gallienne, his predecessor who stepped down last week after seven years at the helm.

With the club on an even keel with a healthy junior section and a senior side in good hands, finding a main club sponsor is, he insists, his biggest task.

Brown has been involved with the club many years, having served as a minis coach.

‘All the way through we are in good shape, we have a couple of age bands missing, but apart from that it goes down all to the minis where is where I started and we have 150 minis on the books.’

Apart from a few tweaks, he does not see any revolutionary changes at Sylvans.

‘You have to look at it all from top to bottom, see what needs to be changed and what doesn’t need to. There’s a lot of good and I don’t want to change things for the sake of it.

‘There’s a lot of good things going on here and first things first, the priority is to find a main sponsor.

‘A lot of it will be about tweaking a few things and providing some new energy. Nige, Paddy [Breton, treasurer] and Kevin [Melrose, treasurer] have been around 10 years or so and the energy and time they have put into this club is fantastic, incredible.’

‘We have to get some money into this club and grassroots football.

‘You take a fence down like that and it clears you out financially.’
