GFC miss penalty and chance to go fourth
THE importance of having Ross Allen in the GFC team was there for all 811 paying customers at The Lane to see on Saturday.
Allen, troubled by a tight hamstring, did not appear, being saved for another day and the Green Lions fought out a sterile goalless draw against an average and injury-hit Hythe Town side.
The Green Lions even managed to miss a penalty as the draw took them one place up the table to seventh. Had they won they would have gone up to fourth.
Tony Vance admitted afterwards that having parked their green bus on their travels on many occasions over the past two seasons, they would have to learn to deal with opponents doing likewise to them.
In this case, it was a big red bus and it was manoeuvred out of the way on only a couple of occasions on a fairly lifeless afternoon.
‘My biggest fear today was not being able to score. But what you have to look at is how times have changed,’ said Vance later.
‘Last year no one would have come here and done that. they are cheering a draw ... How times have changed.’
Allen is confident of being fit for Wednesday’s home game against Whitstable Town when skipper Jamie Dodd will also be available after missing the Hythe game through suspension.
