Guernsey FC midfield pair await key news

CHARLTON GAUVAIN and Kez Mahon could both be sidelined for significant periods, says Green Lions coach Tony Vance.

Both players await the results of midweek scans on their damaged knees, but the early diagnosis is not promising admits the coach.

‘We’re down to our bare bones,’ said Vance, who is still unable to select either striker Will Fazakerley, midfielders Thomas Dodds and Dave Rihoy and has lost Alex Scott to Bristol City.

On the plus side, keeper Cal Stanton has not broken his hand, although it is swollen after he punched an interior steel gate in a fit of pique at half time against Herne Bay.

Vance is trying to stay positive and points out that while his men have slipped to 14th they are still just seven points off the play-offs and are 20 points clear of relegation, so that is not an issue this season. Home crowds are also good.

Tonight’s postponed game against Three Bridges has been pushed back to next Tuesday.
