NORTH moved five points clear at the top of the FNB Priaulx League last night – but their neighbours made them work hard for it.

None more so that Jody Bisson, the Vale Rec goalkeeper who is now into his 40s but proved himself still to be a class act between the sticks with a string of quality saves that kept his side in the game and at one stage threatened to end the chocolate-and-blues long winning run in the league at nine games.

However, a match-winner arrived in the form of Danny Cooley 10 minutes from time as the defender turned the ball in from close range after a deep corner was put back into the six-yard box from beyond the far post.

On the balance of play, North deserved the victory, but it was not guaranteed until Ross De Carteret brought proceedings to an end on 94min.

Earlier, Sam Murray's first-half goal had been equalised by Jack Smith's cleverly improvised flick.
