Green Lions off the mark in 2020
ROBBIE LEGG struck late to give Guernsey FC their first win of 2020 and their first in eight games on Saturday as they defeated 10-man VCD Athletic 1-0.
The young striker swept the ball home with a first-time right-footed finish from 12 yards after a brilliant run by Frank Tobin down the right, in which he displayed his acceleration, power and skill, set up the chance for Legg in the 80th minute.
The home side, who had earlier had goalkeeper Nick Blue sent off for bringing down Ross Allen outside of his box as the last man, had the chance to equalise from the penalty spot but Charlie MacDonald chipped the ball well over the crossbar attempting a ‘Panenka’.
The win moves the Green Lions up to 12th in the Isthmian South East table, seven points off the play-off places.
